Quick Review - NorthStar Single Phase Electric Air Compressor 60 gallon
I just bought 20 of the NorthStar 60 gal. compressors for the company I work for. Personally, I own one too, and I love it. I am an inventor / artist and I do a lot of non-typical types of work with these. Sure, I fill tires and run a few traditional pneumatic tools off of it, but The NorthStar is such a versatile machine, I can’t imagine going without one at home now! If you’re in the market for an industrial compressor that’s versatile, dependable and powerful these NorthStar 60 gallon compressors are good value.
My NorthStar at home sees a lot of use, whether for industrial, household, or hobby-related use. As I mentioned, I am an inventor / artist. In my art, I do a good deal of large-scale paint jobs that require precision and power. My NorthStar dependably delivers the power and accuracy a good stream of compressed air should deliver to make painting work. I used to use a smaller 6 gal. portable unit for painting, but I found that it was only good for smaller jobs like touch ups on cars and such. This bigger compressor lasts much longer due to the bigger tank, and keeps paint spraying for the amount of time I need.
I also run a pneumatic nailer off my NorthStar. Again, I’ve done some nailing on fences and other household jobs, and, again, I could use my 6 gal. portable compressor to do some of this type of job, but for the amount of nails and re-charge time needed to do an effective job on my inventions, I needed the big boy. This 60 gallon beast is beautiful and keeps my passion for art and invention enjoyable.
In a lot of ways, this 60 gallon compressor is just like its competitors. We have a lot of these big compressors at work. Some old models and some new. They all last long because of the big tanks. They’re all powerful enough to run bigger tools effectively. Sometimes, if you need to run more than one tool off a compressor, the Northstar is much more dependable. For some reason, even though they all have hook ups for more than one tool, some don’t deliver enough juice if you have two or more hooked in. So, this is the first big advantage to the NorthStar. It is strong!
From other NorthStar products we have at my work, I get the impression that this unit will last long. The one I have at home I have had for a year now, and the older NS units at work are twenty years old. Thus, I assume this sturdy rig is going to last for a long time. I will have to update this review in ten years though, to make sure.
There is one key reason my company authorized the purchase of 20 of these. Say it with me. COST. I would not use that word, though. I don’t work for Northstar, but when something delivers like a more expensive machine, but is priced like the crappy ones, I call that VALUE. The NorthStar 60 gallon air compressor is value. For what I payed, I got the whole package. Everything you need a compressor to do, this compressor does.
At work, we have plenty of nice men to help unload stuff. At home, if you buy this thing, you might need to call in a few favors from one or two friends. It’s a heavy beast. Durability means power, but it also means a sore back if you’re not careful! On delivery day, you’ll be glad you followed my advice and roped a helper into unloading this.
OK, I think I talked enough about this. Here are some quick stats from the NorthStar website. You’ll notice the numbers are consistent with what reality has taught me. This thing is good value. I recommend it. Oh, I forgot to mention the warrantee is excellent! FOUR years consumer and 2 years commercial! Best out there, as far as I know.

60 Gallon Air Compressor Reviews Conclusion
I got this thing because it was a professional compressor, ready for big jobs at a great price-point. It’s great on a job site, but also at home if you have an eclectic set of needs that go beyond what a small portable compressor can help with. After all the research and a year of use, the NorthStar has earned my recommendation to you. Enjoy, and don’t forget to lift with your legs! Outstanding!
